Staff training

The Goodwill Center (the name has now changed from School to Center) is closed Thursday and Friday this week due to a staff training which aim to improve the communication skills of the staff.

The training is financed and organized by the Steung Hav project which I described in an earlier post. The staff training is held at The Goodwill Center as this building is more suited. Staff members from The Goodwill Center are also invited to the training as well as 2 students from the teenager class. Furthermore are staff from M'lop Tapang and 1 member from The Starfish Project invited.

The training is held by Sok Chea from the Attitude Center of Education, who are invited from Phnom Penh. This is the fifth year they are invited and this years class regards the importance of communication.

As I didn't want to disturb to much by taking pictures I only took a few and they are all taken during the training today.

Regarding the Steung Hav project you can now find 2 different links on the right, one in English and one in German. The German one is more updated with pictures etc. We have also decided to donate the clothes from Lisbeth to children in this project. Hopefully we are able to carry this out in the near future.

Videos from Khmer boxing

Finally I have been able to upload a few videos. The first two are from the Khmer boxing class on the backyard of the school.

The third video is from one of the class rooms. The younger children can not participate in the Khmer boxing class and were playing games inside instead.

Khmer boxing

Yesterday I was up at The Goodwill School to take some photos/videos of the Khmer boxing class. Khmer boxing is one of the most popular sports in Cambodia and origins from the early Angkor period.

Pov, who is working at The Small Hotel, is instructing the children and holding different exercises on the school backyard. Pov has practiced Khmer boxing since his early days. The exercises aim to teach the basics of Khmer boxing as well as increase the discipline of the participants. Trust me, it's not always easy to have the children here standing in lines and waiting for their turn but in this class they are successfully taught to wait for their turn and to be patient.

Of course I had to try some boxing against Pov but it seemed I missed the first lesson: keep the guard up and protect your face!

Enjoy a few pictures from the class:

I will upload a few videos in the upcoming days as well.

Angkor Wat

As promised, here are some pictures from our visit at Angkor Wat outside of Siem Reap. Angkor Wat is the most famous temple in the region and is usually used as name for the entire region. However are there several sights in the area such as the city of Angkor Thom, where the temple of Bayon lies, as well as numerous temples all around. If you want to read more about Angkor Wat and the surrounding temples here are two of many existing links:

I tried to make a description by each picture but didn't succeed. Therefore I divide them in to four and give you a short explanation before the pictures.

These four are from the temple of Angkor Wat. The first sees Angkor Wat from the east, the second a view inside the temple. The third with Henrik an example of a decorated wall and finally the fourth with me looks at the west front side from the temple.

Angkor Wat seen from the east side.

The following are from outside and inside the ancient city Angkor Thom. Firstly it is Henrik outside one of the entrances, secondly a view over the Bayon temple. Finally the third and fourth picture are inside of Bayon.

These final four are from Ta Prohm which is also know as the Tomb Raider temple since part of the movie was shot here in year 2000.
